RAVENOUS

Bonjour!

I have been reading some wild animal magazines- en Francais! Thus, I conceived a romantic card.

From far far away, we have a special jungle guest visiting...

cute, no? but keep looking...

French wild animal magazines, you are so inspiring. If only it could be the non-navel gazing, photoshop-free, tiny testical displaying, technicolour 1970s again.

Aloha,

ps: congratulations to me on 50 blog posts.

FRUIT FIGHT

Hello people of the internet,

You thought that no posts meant I was sitting idle?!
Hah!

I'll show you idle.

This one was for an event put on to get those pesky local youth involved in the community- with the help of the Microsoft Store and some kind of choppy-slicey ninja video game!

I worked with the friendly folks at the United Way of King County to come with something they thought fit the branding of the organization already, but had a youthful twist. Their signature colour? You guessed it, orange.

Hii-ya!

LOOKING DOWN

Dear Squirrels,

Well, its fall and like it or not, this is the time of year when things die. Leaves go out in a burst of glory, fruit trees lose their leaves in a sigh of releif, having passed their seedy children into the next world, and everywhere our animal friends are getting chubby- with fur, with fat- having gorged themselves preparing for the long, cold winter ahead.

This fall I was lucky enough to have some dear friends with a pear tree.

And to visit the Seattle Arboretum's Japanese garden.

Koi feeding season had just ended and these babies were more like small trained whales. The lady on the left is eyeing me like I could be made of tasty shrimp-meal, don't fool yourself that she was just curious! These docile seeming creatures were on the prowl. We saw one koi in the pond that had to have been a colossal 30 lb beast, it practically had a wake when it swam by.

Wishing you all a peaceful, reflective autumn and a HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

BACK ON THE HORSE

Hey kids,

I've been helping out at a Perspective Drawing class in town, and thought it might be fun to post my work coming out of it.

The assignment was to practice single point perspective by copying a master's work:
(yes, the photocopies were that bad. and that is the teacher at the bottom...)

Here is my copy:

Which, I daresay, is pretty good. It is awfully validating to be good at something, isn't it?

Anyhoo, that's that. Maybe more next week.

MISSION: COMMISSION

Well hello out there!

Despite the radio silence, I have been busy and it is high time I shared what's been going on.
Portraits! My favourite one so far:

Commissioned by the subject's sister, as a surprise wedding present. My life was made so much easier by the fact that these kids are just gosh darn adorable! (20 x 15 cm)

Ah, summertime and love is in the air...

WITH TEETH

Hey Friends,

I am hanging out with a bunch of four year olds this summer, and just falling in love with doing art work with them. First they choose the subject matter, then they watch with rapt attention while I draw something for them to colour in, next, they colour it in with such vigor and zest! I am totally inspired by how they launch themselves at the page with impatient abandon.

So, I've been doing collaborations with them in crayon. This walrus was handed to me as just a pair of teeth!

And I am particularly fond of this 'dinosaur tiger's facial expression, which I did.

Yep, its a wild world out there.

Summer lovin',
